Under Canvas recently opened its first camp in Washington State: Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge, joining 11 other Under Canvas locations nationwide. The new location sits on a 120-acre property in Washington’s White Salmon River Valley, in proximity to a wide range of activities and just 15 miles from White Salmon, Washington, or a one-hour drive from Portland.

“As our first Pacific Northwest location, Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge represents an exciting milestone for the brand,” said Matt Gaghen, chief executive officer, Under Canvas. “While it reflects our ongoing commitment to creating immersive outdoor experiences, this location is truly one-of-a-kind, most notably providing guests spectacular views of Mount Hood and the stunning valley floor. It offers a unique opportunity to connect guests with the stunning beauty of the Columbia River Gorge—where comfort meets adventure, and endless outdoor recreation is uniquely paired with the region’s renowned wine and culinary offerings.”

The camp features upscale, safari-inspired canvas tents on private decks with king-sized beds, luxe linens, bedside lanterns, USB charging packs, a gas fireplace and en-suite bathrooms. Signature Under Canvas accommodations include the proprietary Stargazer Tent and the Mount Hood Suite Tent — two tents connected by a private deck and outdoor lounge.

The dedicated on-site experiences team offers customized recommendations and access to the region’s top activities. The dining program highlights al fresco and indoor café-style options with grab-and-go lunches and snacks available throughout the day. On-site programming includes activities like acoustic live music, yoga, kids’ activities, nightly s’mores and premium brand partnerships.

Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge’s inaugural season runs through Oct. 27.

Additionally, Camp Unwritten debuts a new glamping experience from World of Hyatt in collaboration with Reese Witherspoon’s Reese’s Book Club. The limited-time reading retreats offer members the chance to glamp alongside bestselling authors, with meals, fireside chats and book-inspired experiences.

This summer’s experiences include:

  • July 14–16: Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge – Meet Alexene Farol Follmuth, author of Twelfth Knight (Reese’s Book Club Summer 2024 Young Adult pick)
  • July 28–30: Under Canvas Great Smoky Mountains – Meet Ally Condie, author of The Unwedding(Reese’s Book Club pick for June 2024)
