LGBTQIA+

The Greater Louisville Region is happy to announce the return of its LGBTQ+ celebrations this year after a two-year hiatus. On Sept. 17, Louisville Pride Festival, also known as PrideFest 2022, welcomes the entire LGBTQ+ community and its allies to celebrate.

The city also recently opened its first dedicated LGBTQ+ center since the last dedicated center opened in the 1980s. The Louisville Pride Foundation inaugurated the Pride Center in June during Pride Month and all Pride events nationwide. The center will host game nights, movie screenings, classes and more for the LGBTQ+ community.

Louisville also provides plenty of other spaces for the community, like the Black-owned Sis Got Tea, where brewed tea helps raise funds for a safe and sober queer space in the city. Play Louisville hosts drag events and other queer events, making it a welcome space for everyone.

Beyond social activities and spaces, Louisville is now home to one of the largest archives of LGBTQ+ history. University of Louisville acquired a private collection of documents and publications helping to preserve and share the history of gay rights for future generations.

Louisville strives to promote diversity and inclusion through its LGBTQ+ spaces and events and the return of PrideFest and the new Pride Center are huge additions to the city’s continuing commitment to providing diverse and inclusive spaces.
