New Survey Reveals Pet Owner’s Preferences When Choosing Accommodations

A new survey from PetScreening reveals what a lot of traveling pet parents have known for a long while: Sometimes, it’s just worth changing your travel plans if it means a better experience for your furry friend.

Among survey respondents, more than 60 percent of pet owners said their pets impact their travel choices, with 43 percent saying they preferred to travel with their pets, and that percentage increasing to 47 percent among Gen Z pet owners and travelers.

Additionally, 45 percent of pet owners said they’ve changed or canceled their travel plans for lack of pet-friendly accommodations. Again, Gen Z pet owners exhibited this behavior most prominently, at 57 percent.

And when those pet owners are forced to travel without their pets, they’re paying for it. Many are spending $25–50 or more for pet care while traveling.

“Pets are part of the family, and they are influencing where people go, how long they stay and whether they travel at all,” said John Bradford, founder and CEO, PetScreening. “Our research shows a real gap between what pet owners want and what the market delivers.”

As such, PetScreening indicated, hotels and rental providers may want to start thinking about how they cater to traveling pet parents. If they do, it may just make travel easier for everyone involved.
