New Year’s Resolutions

We do this every year: We plan to make New Year’s resolutions and set goals for the New Year to be our best selves. Don’t set yourself up for failure and set some resolutions you can actually obtain this year with these honest tips.

Give it a Try Before Committing

If you’re cutting out drinking or eating something specific, or have a particular habit you want to break, try it for two weeks and see how you feel. Don’t set a grand goal for months at a time or the whole year right out of the gate. Give yourself a few chances to try.

Set Obtainable Timelines

Make a few goals and resolve to have one accomplished by spring. Set a realistic goal timeline for yourself and motivate yourself to keep up the good work throughout the year.

Reward Yourself

For every restricting goal (lose weight, eat less sugar, etc.) give yourself something back, like plan a self-care night twice a week. If you accomplish a few goals on your list, like finishing those books you’ve been meaning to read, becoming more politically active or saving a total sum you set for yourself, reward yourself with something small that doesn’t blow up your entire resolution list.
