Panama City Beach expands its artificial reef program with additional projects. New decommissioned vessels and a collaborative regional reef will, along with past projects, further create both a marine habitat and destination for divers.
The new vessels to be added to the project include a 100-foot, triple-deck towboat, which will be positioned 12 miles from St. Andrews Pass beneath 100 feet of water, and a 100-foot trawl boat situated 9 miles offshore beneath 85 feet of water. Then, Visit Panama City Beach is partnering with Okaloosa County and Coastal Conservation Association Florida to also deploy the 224-foot Henry Alex vessel, 28 miles from St. Andrews Pass and 120 feet below water.

“We are excited to grow the artificial reef system in Bay County waters,” said Erin Graham, coastal resources manager, Visit Panama City Beach. “As fishing and diving activity in our area grows, expanding our reef system will help reduce overcrowding and distribute fishing pressure across a greater number of reefs.”
