Parc. Café

Durban’s dining scene has a sharp focus on creating a casual, social atmosphere locals love — it is, after all, a giant beach town. Nowhere is this better exemplified than at parc. The popular café serves breakfast, brunch and lunch all day and is the perfect spot to stop and mingle on a trip.

The atmosphere at parc. is laidback and inviting with a modern approach to décor. The enormous black wall covered in chalk writing and sparse decorations allow you to focus on the people around you rather than staring at the walls. The seating here is a bit limited, but there usually isn’t much of a wait.

The food is where the restaurant really excels. Parc. boasts a seasonal menu that offers a wide variety of traditional breakfast offerings. They even have options for vegans. The Not-so-Benedict poached eggs with bacon or mushrooms slathered with a healthy heaping of lemon Hollandaise is a favorite among locals. They also offer a vegan chia bowl I found surprisingly delicious. Be sure to try one of the homemade scones for dessert.

Even if you’re not hungry, parc. offers a great variety of hot and cold drinks. While its coffee menu isn’t extensive, they infuse some of the options with great flavors including raspberry and crème soda. They also have lots of options when it comes to teas and milkshakes.

I found the staff at parc. exceptionally friendly and the food fantastic, and look forward to returning here on my next visit to Durban.
