Under $100: Pasadena, California

The City of Roses in sunny Southern California has plenty to offer, even when you are working on a tight budget. Check out the following itinerary to make your money last in this beautiful city.

Start with an outside-the-box breakfast at Honey & Lavender. This boutique espresso bar and deli is a great place to pick up a light breakfast of L&H Toast (goat cheese, lavender and raw honey on artisan walnut wheat toast) along with a Cold Brew Smoothie (made with almond milk, peanut butter, banana and honey) to wash it down for just less than $10.

After breakfast, head to nearby Eaton Canyon for some hiking and exploring Southern California’s version of the great outdoors. In addition to the beautiful scenery of the hiking trails and streams, this nature preserve also offers a visitors center to learn all about the local flora and fauna.

Next fill up on lunch at The Stand, a California burger joint where you can get a hearty Stand Burger, Standwich or Stand Dog Creation, along with a delicious shake or root beer float, for less than $20.

With a full belly, explore Norton Simon Museum of Art where you can work off those calories walking through the museum’s exhibits of the works of world-renowned artists such as Degas, Rembrandt, Manet and Picasso. Admission is $15.

Round out your day with a stroll down Colorado Boulevard, the route of the world-famous Tournament of Roses Parade, people watching and window shopping before heading to dinner at White Horse Lounge, where you can grab an entree, a dessert and a beer all for less than $45.

With the cash you’ve got leftover, hit up Neon Retro Arcade where, for $10 an hour, you can play all the old-school video games you want.
