Planning your year of travel? Don’t forget to include some festivals worth the trek. Shake up your routine and let this list be your guide for the best fests by season.

Spring: King’s Day, Amsterdam

Any reason to visit Amsterdam this year is a worthy one, but plan for a spring vacation to celebrate King’s Day, April 27. Dress in your best orange and celebrate the Dutch holiday alongside thousands of festivalgoers. Celebrations begin the night of and rage into the next day as participants hop on party boats.

Summer: Miyajima Water Fireworks Festival in Hiroshima, Japan

Summer in Japan is already a great time, but add in some epic fireworks displays and that’s Miyajima Water Fireworks Festival. Also known as Miyajima-on-the-sea-Fireworks, the annual event is celebrated mid-August in Hiroshima. Guests head to O-torii Gate to watch the spectacle. Watch as the shrines glitter in the distance under more than 5,000 fireworks.

Fall: Diwali in Mumbai, India

India knows how to party, and one culture-seekers will appreciate is Diwali in Mumbai. Filled with good fortune, food and lights, Diwali is celebrated all over India with some notable festivities taking place in Jaipur, Delhi, Varanasi and Mumbai.

Winter: The Arctic Light Festival in Norway
For that bucket-list sighting of the northern lights you’ve been dreaming of, there’s no better time than the present, and no better location than Tromsø, Norway. The Arctic Light Festival boasts live musical performances, open-air events and a slew of exhibits to showcase the naturally occurring, and truly stunning, northern lights.
