One of the best things about Rabat, Morocco, is the majority of popular sites are completely free to visit, making this a great frugal destination. This is also a great choice for families that don’t want to break the bank with entry fees.
The first place to visit is easy to decide. The Medina is now a labyrinth of alleyways and interesting-looking buildings. It’s easy to get lost but that’s what makes it fun. Around each corner is another vendor selling foods, homemade creations or other wares. It’s a fantastic way to dive into the culture and see what it’s like for a typical citizen trying to navigate to their destination. This area doesn’t have as many market sellers that will hound or harass visitors.
A stone’s throw from the Medina is the Rabat harbor. It’s another way to see the way of life for those that call Rabat home. The harbor is a fascinating place to admire the fishing boats and people hustling from the boats to their sellers.
After that, take a walk to the Kasbah des Oudais. This site is historical and considered the place where Morocco was founded. The streets are blue and white and remind many travelers of Greece. This splash of color really makes the area pop out. It’s also a fantastic spot for taking photos.
For dinner options, many travelers and locals recommend the Le Dhow as a good place to eat. The restaurant itself is cool. It’s a pirate boat turned into a floating establishment. The food can cost $25–40 for a meal.
