On May 20, Downton Abbey – A New Era will hit theaters. The new film follows Lady Violet Crawley and her inheritance of a fine villa in the south of France. To celebrate the movie’s release, Red Savannah compiled a list of the finest villas on the French Riviera to live like a character from the beloved series and upcoming film.
Villa Napoleon, Sainte-Maxime, Saint-Tropez
Villa Napoleon offers a prime location close to the bustling marina of Sainte Maxime and its exciting beach clubs, restaurants and endless white sandy beaches. With three floors, numerous terraces overlooking the Gulf of St. Tropez and ample space for entertainment, this is just the place for a Crawley-style family gathering. All 11 bedrooms are equipped with en-suite bathrooms and private terraces. The villa also features a game room, gym, three dining terraces, a cinema/media suite, outdoor kitchen, pool table and table tennis.
About three miles from the charm and glamour of Monte Carlo, the six-bedroom villa is nestled into the hills of Cap d’Ai, offering views of Cap Ferrat peninsula and the Mediterranean Sea. Guests will be pampered with everything from breakfast served on the terrace to sunset cocktails as the sun falls over the Mediterranean. The living areas are bright and modern, with direct access to the terrace, a heated infinity pool and landscaped lawns. For evenings in, spend the night in the private cinema. For a night out on the town, check out the famous Casino de Monte Carlo before hitting some of the most exclusive nightclubs on the Riviera.
Once home to the former Colefax & Fowler Chairman Tom Parr, La Casella is a neoclassical pavilion with one of the most stunning gardens in the region. The drawing room bathes in sunlight, opening onto a terrace, the perfect place for some pre-dinner drinks. After drinks, guests can walk along the myriad pathways marked by scented roses and fragrant lavender before enjoying dinner under the wisteria-draped pergola.
Woodstock Lodge, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom
Located on the edge of the picturesque village of Woodstock in Oxfordshire, a 45-minute drive from where the original Downton Abbey takes place, this beautifully located villa is perfect for exploring the Cotswolds. The villa is surrounded by flowers, neighboring hens, grazing sheep and other wildlife. This charming English home is perfect for the more adventurous and active traveler as it features a large heated pool and AstroTurf tennis court.
