Before you reserve your next rental car, follow our tips for having the safest experience.
Insurance
Check with your car insurance company to see if your policy covers rental cars. If it does cover rental cars, be sure to carry a copy of your insurance on your trip. Additionally, you can purchase insurance directly from the rental company.
Examine the Car
Before you leave the lot, take time to check the rental car for any damage. If you notice any problems, alert the rental agent so you aren’t charged upon your return.
Research the Laws
Research the traffic safety laws of the state you’re visiting before your trip. While basic rules of the road are the same, some laws differ state to state. It’s better to prepare ahead of time than get pulled over for making a simple mistake.
Follow Directions
Whether you’re using a navigation app or a good old-fashioned map, follow the directions of your route. If you have a travel partner, put them in charge of directions so you can focus on safe driving.
Know Roadside Assistance
Make sure you know whom to contact in the event you need roadside assistance. Many rental car companies will provide this information on your paperwork, so keep this with you at all times.
