Destinations / Europe

Cologne is a wonderful city to visit for a few days, and this hotel provides a comfortable, affordable place to rest your head.

Situated around 15 minutes’ walk from the main station, 18Arts Hotel is, in fact, well-placed for the main shopping and entertainment districts of Cologne. Just outside the door you will find a number of great restaurants and bars, with the street quite raucous on weekends. Rest assured you won’t hear anything from your room, however, so you can still get a good night of sleep.

The rooms are all made in different themes, from a stark white crime scene investigation to an underwater room. It’s a quirky touch, and it certainly adds to the experience. Aside from the décor, the room was clean and comfortable, with power showers and good heating.

Staff was welcoming and helpful, and there is no curfew to worry about if you are heading out late. There is free WiFi throughout the hotel, and it works satisfyingly well. You can add breakfast for an extra charge, with a standard rate of around $110.

All in all, it’s a lovely spot to stay if you are looking for a well-situated budget option in Cologne.
