My husband and I dined at Broussard’s (https://broussards.com/) in New Orleans for Christmas Day brunch. The fine-dining restaurant is known for refined Creole fare. It is considered one of the city’s Grande Dame restaurants.
We arrived ahead of our reservation, and luckily we were seated early. The entrance of the restaurant was decked out in festive holiday decorations, though the dining room itself was more demure in its regular décor. We were seated near the courtyard window and our waiter was over shortly to take our drink order and go over the menu. We ordered coffees and enjoyed the hot bread and butter for the table.
To start, I ordered the Roquefort wedge. The butter lettuce salad came with bacon lardons, apples, candied walnuts and a creamy blue cheese dressing. While the salad was tasty, I prefer wedge salads made with crisp iceberg lettuce, as opposed to the softer butter lettuce variety. We each ordered the barbecue shrimp and grits for our main course. The Gulf shrimp was seasoned with a light Creole-style barbecue sauce and came on top of a bed of mascarpone grits. I don’t normally care much for grits, but this preparation was spectacular and I cleaned my plate.
Our attentive waiter came to check on us often, asking how our meal was and refilling our drinks. We decided to end by sharing a dessert. We chose the almond bread pudding. The rich dish came with a brandy milk anglaise, custard and crunchy almond slivers. It was a perfect sweet bite to end the meal.
The service, ambiance and cuisine are reason enough to dine at Broussard’s.
