Santa Monica, California, has such an incredible array of restaurants and bars, it can be difficult to choose one. Rustic Canyon on Wilshire Boulevard makes it easy to decide; the restaurant manages to clearly set itself apart from the rest.

This farm-to-table concept restaurant uses organic produce, top-quality meats and the freshest ingredients possible. Just about everything is made from scratch and the ever-changing menu focuses on seasonal availability of sustainable products.

Dishes are created by Jeremy Fox, a James Beard nominated chef who takes simple ingredients and elevates them in the most ingenious ways. Everything is meant to be shared, making it a neighborhood favorite and the perfect place for friends and family to come together in the tradition of good food and good company.

Chef Fox is famous for his polenta recipe, good enough to be eaten as a meal by itself but a perfect accompaniment to any dish on the menu. At Rustic Canyon flavors melt together to create delectable experiences that make as many memories as the company of friends sharing the meals will.

The beverage menu also sets a high standard with small-batch cocktails that utilize farm-fresh ingredients that complement the drinks perfectly. The impressive wine list offers more than 500 wines by the bottle and 30 by the glass, while the beer selection consists of carefully selected craft beers.

Dealing with FOMO When Studying Abroad

The Fear of Missing Out greatly affects students who study abroad. For months students look forward to the countries they will call home, whether for a semester or a year, and then after they arrive, the loneliness and separation sets in. It’s difficult to be away from family and friends for a long amount of time and studying abroad is no exception, no matter how badly a student wants to fall in love with their city.

Taking It Back to Basics at Ghent’s Gruut Brewery

Breweries are everywhere today and, while many craft and microbreweries specialize in particular styles of beer, few are quite as specialized as Ghent Gruut Brewery in Ghent, Belgium. Here, the current craze for hop-heavy India Pale Ales is entirely eschewed as absolutely no hops at all are used in the brewing process. Before you clamor to claim this can’t be beer at all as everyone knows the four ingredients of beer are grain, water, yeast, and hops, consider hops weren’t actually added to beer until the 13th century. Before then, all beers were flavored with herbs and spices, or gruut, as the French population of medieval Ghent called them.
