Every two years, teams of the best golfers from the United States and Europe face off in match play competition at the Ryder Cup.
The 2016 edition of the competition will take place Sept. 27–Oct. 2 at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota. The United States takes its players from the top of the PGA tour rankings, while the European team is selected from the top players on the European Tour.
These players then take part in matches that contribute to the overall score of their teams. The format makes for a tournament of high drama and great tension, something that can’t be said of every golf event.
Europe has won the Ryder Cup three times in a row, and the U.S. team will be chomping at the bit to win back the trophy on home soil. At the time of writing, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Jimmy Walker and Brooks Koepka had already clinched a place on the U.S. team, while Rory McIlroy, Danny Willett, Henrik Stenson, Chris Wood, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Andy Sullivan and Matt Fitzpatrick are guaranteed a spot on the European team.
With five of the Europeans set to compete in their first Ryder Cup, this year’s competition could represent the perfect opportunity for the U.S. golfers to get their hands back on the trophy.
Get your hands on tickets from the official Ryder Cup website. The closest large city to the course is Minneapolis-St. Paul, which offers good domestic and international flight connections.
