Previous vacation trends centered around cramming as much as possible into an itinerary covered with bucket-list “to-do’s,” but more recent trends evolve toward the original purpose of a vacation: relaxation. As wellness resorts continue to pop up around the world, some are embarking on a new era of science-based wellness, standing out among the paddleboard yoga and mud baths that have become resort staples in recent years.
One such resort is the One&Only on the Desaru Coast of southeastern Malaysia. Opening Sept. 6, the resort offers both suites and private villas inspired by the tropical surroundings.
The resort will be outfitted with a Chenot medi-spa, a Swiss company that made a name for itself in hospitality health and wellness. The on-site spa will invite guests for state-of-the-art treatments, like organ function analysis via bioenergetic screenings. Chenot’s “cosmeceutical” methods and products can help optimize health by “reducing disease risk rather than treating disease,” according to Chenot’s website. As part of the “Chenot Method,” medical professionals assess individuals using noninvasive scientific methods like Lifestyle Biomarkers, analyzing the effect of lifestyle choices on health so patients can receive a personalized treatment program catered to their needs.
Chenot treatments vary depending on location, but as one of One&Only’s newer properties, it’s likely Desaru Coast will be well-equipped.
On Labor Day Weekend, I visited Blue Ridge Winery in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, for a bachelorette party. Not knowing anything about the winery prior, my breath was taken away the moment we arrived. It was stunning. The beautiful view of the evergreen farm could be enjoyed from seating above on a terrace, below on a ground floor, on a patch of turf or under a tent. Our group made our way through the crowds to find a seat. There were many tables with firepits and couch seating, but all were already occupied. We were able to find seating in the tent.
