With autumn right around the corner, there is no better time to set out on a sensory journey through the renowned wineries, breweries and cideries in New York State. Each region offers a one-of-a-kind experience with distinct flavors in each one. Whether looking for a crisp cider, a hoppy IPA or a delicious wine, there is a region out there for you.
Finger Lakes
Nestled between beautiful lakes and rolling hills, the Finger Lakes region is a paradise for wine lovers. Begin at Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery, known for its Rieslings and sparkling wines. Next, head to Heron Hill Winery on Keuka Lake offering breathtaking views and award-winning reds and whites. For a taste of local wines, head to Three Brothers Wineries and Estates to sample a variety of wines in the quirky tasting rooms. Don’t forget to stop at The Communion Wine + Spirits in Syracuse, a Black-owned wine shop where owner Cha McCoy can highlight wines that showcase the region’s diverse terroir and the passion of local winemakers.
Hudson Valley
Charming travelers with its historic estates, Hudson Valley also offers a vibrant craft beverage scene. Explore Angry Orchard, where crisp apples transform into refreshing ciders perfect for the changing season. Next, head to Captain Lawrence Brewing Company for a diverse round-up of IPAs, stouts and seasonal brews. Klocke Estate Brand Distillery crafts exquisite brandies using fruit grown right on property and Dassai Blue Sake Brewery takes traditional Japanese sake and mixes it with local flavors to create a one-of-a-kind drink.
Long Island
On Long Island’s East End, travelers can enjoy wines that reflect both the Atlantic Ocean’s influence and the area’s maritime climate. Bedell Cellars is a must-visit and known for its Merlots and Cabernet Francs. Afterwards, visit Paumanok Vineyards for New York’s only Chenin Blanc, along with delicious Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Lastly, end your trip at Woodside Orchards for handcrafted ciders made from local apples.
