With Google searches for things like the Northern Lights increasing by more than 200 percent in the last year alone, it’s clear many travelers seek unique and astonishing natural phenomena across the world. Travel accommodation provider Coolstays compiled a list of some of the top sites to see the world’s best showcases of beauty.
Northern Lights
We’ve all seen photos of them, but what if you could actually see them yourself? Even more, what if you could see them from your own cabin? The Arctic Hideaway is an off-grid experience offering eco-friendly cabins surrounded by rugged mountains and views of the sky as far as the eye can see.
Meteor Showers
Head to Joshua Tree National Park, considered one of the best stargazing spots in the United States. The region is so high above sea level and has such little light pollution, you’re guaranteed to see stardust. For hours of stargazing and meteor shower spotting, stay at Rock Reach House to relax in a Jacuzzi among the rocks and watch meteor showers streak across the sky.
Lava Flows
Over in Hawai’i, stay at this off-grid cabin on the state’s Kalapana lava beds near the base of the Kilauea Volcano. When you’re not relaxing on your patio or in your outdoor bathtub, you can take in views of the volcano, ocean and black lava fields.
Hot Springs
Searches for Japan hot springs increased worldwide by 70 percent in 2022, and guests looking to check this off their bucket list can stay at a traditional Japanese ryokan at the foot of Mount Yufu to experience it themselves. This ryokan sits near one of the country’s best thermal waters and even comes with its own open-air, hot-spring stone bath.
Lightning Storms
Do you know which European region sees the most lightning? Interestingly enough, Northern Italy is home to the most lightning strikes, and visitors can see it for themselves while staying in a mirror house in Bolzano. Here, you’ll be spoiled with views over the peaks of the Dolomites, as well as non-stop views of lightning strikes.
Waterfalls
If you’re interested in seeing the largest waterfall system in the world, look no further than Gran Melia Iguazu in Argentina. This resort allows guests to see the stunning waterfalls from the comfort of their bed!
