Women travelers have more on their minds than where to book their dream vacation. According to MMGY Global’s Portrait of American Travelers, 64 percent of women cited safety as a concern when taking a vacation. The marketing agency also found safety was only second to cost when it came to obstacles in taking a vacation.

Women-only tours are already trending in the travel marketplace, with options like Intrepid Traveler’s range of women-only expeditions in areas like Morocco, Iran and Jordan. However, hotels and lodging are now focusing on catering to women travelers. Mallorca, Spain, opened the country’s first women-only hotel for travelers 14 years and older for a laid-back Mediterranean vacation.

Som Dona features sophisticated rooms with traditionally feminine influences like splashes of pink, hangers for delicate garments, an expanded line of hair accessories including straighteners, and make-up removing towelettes. Although Som Dona is decidedly feminine, the property strives to balance its aesthetic with an upscale touch where women can still feel at home and inspired in the Mediterranean setting.

Guests can choose from a beach-style pool and an impressive rooftop terrace equipped with Bali beds to enjoy the view. The culinary team prepares healthy cuisine with a sensory experience in mind created from colorful, seasonal products. Som Dona offers packages with breakfast and other meals and is currently planning to introduce retreats and wellness workshops. Sorry guys, you’re not invited.

Enjoy the Open Road on Your Terms

For most of us, time in the car is “me time.” You can listen to that podcast you’re captivated by, blast that pop song and sing along at the top of your lungs or listen to the next chapter in that biography e-book you’re almost finished. A road trip only amplifies those opportunities. So, next time you’re traveling by road, take the wheel and take control. Opt for a rental car on your next vacation, rather than a rideshare, taxi or public transportation, and enjoy the open road on your own terms.
