According to MMGY Global’s Portrait of American Travelers, 64 percent of women cited safety as a concern when taking a vacation. The marketing agency also found safety was only second to cost when it came to obstacles in taking a vacation.

However, hotels and lodging are now focusing on catering to women travelers. Mallorca, Spain, opened the country’s first women-only hotel for travelers 14 years and older for a laid-back Mediterranean vacation.
