Did you know the term “vacation” supposedly originated in the Adirondack Mountains in the 19th century? It was the name for when affluent families left New York City for fresh air and respite. Today, you can still vacation in the Adirondacks at Whiteface Lodge, which offers a top 10 list of things to do there this summer.
- Birds of Prey Encounters: Free for guests and led by a master falconer, travelers can interact with falcons, hawks and more.
- Canoe Club: Also free for guests, this includes beach-side dining and complimentary activities like canoes, pedal boats, badminton and more.
- Tarot Readings: A local specialist reads tarot cards at Peak 47, the lodge’s casual eatery, on select summer days.
- Yoga Classes: Yoga is hosted in the courtyard most Friday and Saturday mornings through August.
- Paint and Sip: Available for an additional fee, kids and adults can enjoy the class, complete with materials, drinks and treats.
- Ice Cream: The parlor is open daily, 5–9 p.m.
- Sports Courts: Open daily until dusk, guests can play tennis, pickleball, basketball, ladderball and cornhole.
- Fireside S’mores: This Whiteface Lodge tradition takes place nightly.
- Movie Theater: Three films play daily in the 56-seat, surround-sound theater with complimentary (and freshly made!) popcorn.
- Bowling: Make reservations upon arrival for the old-fashioned, two-lane bowling alley.
