Tips / Safety

The soothing sound of the ocean, having your toes in the warm sand and a good book in your hand, the beach is the perfect place to relax and unwind from your day-to-day life. Not much can ruin a day at the beach but if it’s a very hot day, it may not be that relaxing. Follow these tips to stay cool on the beach even when it’s too hot.

Don’t lay or sit directly in the sun for too long, as you could become dehydrated from sweating or get a bad sunburn. Set up a tent or an umbrella to help provide well-needed shade; sitting in the shade will give you a break from the hot sun and make it seem a little cooler.

Whether it’s an extremely hot day or just a normal day at the beach, staying hydrated is important. Bring plenty of water to get you through the day; having the water in a cooler will keep it cold, so you don’t have to drink water that’s been sitting in the sun. Drinking cold water and staying hydrated will help you cool down a little bit. Pack some cold fruit in the cooler as a little refresher.

Even if you don’t normally go in the ocean, consider taking a dip every once in a while. The cool ocean will cool down your body and make the heat a little more bearable.

If none of these things help and the heat is still getting to you, pack up early and head home. Try again the next day; you don’t want to risk a bad sunburn or heat exhaustion.
