Just a block from Hollywood Boulevard is Tao, a Pan-Asian restaurant and bar that lives up to the glitz and glam of the city. Unassuming from the outside, the interior awes each and every sense.
Once inside guests find themselves in a subdued passage decorated with Asian-themed murals, statues and artwork that leads to a massive theater-style space that seems more club than restaurant. The ambience offers a little of everything leading up to a massive statue of Quan Yin, the Buddhist goddess of mercy and compassion. The 24-handed Quan Yin sits atop a koi pond and quietly watches over diners while impressive techno-projections of flowers, script and designs are projected across her body.
Diners can either eat at tables on the main floor or relax in sofa-style seating off of the grand staircase while they watch the Quan Yin as if she were performing on stage before them.
The extensive menus offer selections of sashimi, dim sum, noodles and Asian barbeque. The triple pork fried rice is a meat lover’s dream with tender bits of pork belly, barbeque roast pork and pork sausage while the tuna Pringles, thinly shaved pieces of tuna served on crispy wontons with truffle aioli, are a unique, sushi-inspired dish.
The piece de resistance is dessert, with several unique options including a giant fortune cookie dipped in chocolate served with a variety of fresh seasonal fruit. Other selections include an assortment of mini chocolate Buddha and a delectable molten lava cake served inside its own chocolate box decorated with Chinese characters spelling out ‘Tao.’
