Food & Drink

Veganism is growing. Approximately 10 percent of Americans now identify as vegan and the plant-based industry is worth more than $7 billion. But where is it best to be vegan? A new study from Meal Delivery Experts took a look at the facts.

The team broke down TripAdvisor travel data on restaurants and food venues offering at least one vegan option, comparing the 20 largest cities in the United States. The city that came out on top? New York.

Also in the top five destinations were, in descending order: Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco and San Diego. However, New York City was clearly the top contender, with more than double the number of vegan-friendly restaurant options as compared to second-place Los Angeles. The study found New York City offers more than 1,400 vegan-friendly restaurants, while Los Angeles offers just 705. The city at the bottom of the pack? Fort Worth, Texas, with fewer than 100 vegan-friendly restaurants.

Overall, the study found a broad range of vegan-friendly restaurants, offering a variety of cuisines and dining experiences, from donut shops to fine-dining restaurants, pizza shops and international cuisine such as Korean and Ethiopian.
