The Brando is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most, though maybe not worth every penny. The luxurious accommodations on a private island offer peaceful serenity in one of the most picturesque places on Earth.
Tetiaroa is a sacred spot among the Polynesian people and was once the vacation spot for royalty. Eventually Hollywood elite discovered it and kind of took over — the resort is named after Marlon Brando of The Godfather fame. Getting there is the only sore point in staying at the resort, as it requires an additional night in Tahiti. There are three types of rooms at The Brando, ranging from one to three bedrooms. The one-bedroom was roughly 1,000 feet and large enough to accommodation at least three guests. It included a private deck, pool and private beach area.
The room itself was spacious and modern, though sparsely decorated. The bathroom was large too, with double sinks and a grand shower. There was even an outdoor soaking tub. The furniture was comfy, but nothing special. It was great for a good night’s sleep but not something you’d want to lounge all day on.
There’s also a Polynesian spa on site with a steam bath and tea lounge. Since the island is so small, there isn’t a ton to do. You can go kayaking, swimming or hiking, but not much else. If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway where you can be lazy, this is perfect. If you’re looking for something adventurous or a party, The Brando is not the place for you.
The combination of peace and comfort made it an excellent retreat for a few days, but I found I was bored on the third night. The Brando and Tetiaroa are both beautiful, but rather uneventful. It’s the perfect spot to get away from it all, but I’m not sure I would pay to return.
