Tips / Travel

Leaving home to see the world can be a time of learning and personal growth, but it can also be a time of loneliness and homesickness. While making new friends and talking with locals is part of the fun of exploring new places, it doesn’t always come easily.

When you spend a significant amount of time away from home — whether it be for work or for pleasure — the need for the company of like-minded individuals going through similar experiences can be great. InterNations is an ideal way to fill that need.

InterNations is a global community of individuals either living or working abroad. The organization helps people meet up with others in their area to share experiences and get to know each other. It also provides a wealth of useful information on adjusting to your new surroundings that could make your stay abroad a much smoother and more productive experience.

Joining simply requires a quick application on the website (https://www.internations.org/). Once your membership is approved, you have access to destination guides and tips, forums to discuss your experiences as well as hosted events designed to bring members together. They host more than 6,000 events monthly in more than 420 cities around the world.
