During a recent stay in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, my friends and I stayed at The Inn at Herr Ridge. The bed and breakfast is located near one of the battlefields.
We arrived in the evening on Friday. Our group stayed in the annex, a new building located a short walking distance from the original building. After check-in, one of the friendly front desk attendants met us at our building to show us to our rooms. My husband and I stayed on the ground floor. Besides the standard guestroom amenities, the room boasted a gas fireplace and a small balcony that would be perfect for a summer stay. Since we were a large group, we took up the entire annex, except for one room that had a separate entrance. It truly felt as though we were at someone’s home instead of a hotel.
Once we were settled in, we made our way to the lobby for a complimentary glass of Champagne. Afterwards we had dinner at the casual dining option on the property, The Livery, before heading to bed. The next morning we met for breakfast in the main building. Besides cold options like granola, yogurt and juice, we were treated to shrimp and grits. While not a huge fan of grits, this preparation was one of the best I ever had.
We left for the day for a battlefield tour. Once back, we met at the main building’s fine dining restaurant for dinner. I indulged in crab and corn chowder to start, and a take on osso bucco prepared with monkfish for my main. Both dishes were perfect for the chilly fall night. The Inn at Herr Ridge boasts an impressive wine selection. My husband and I decided to split a bottle of red with our friend.
The staff at The Inn at Herr Ridge was incredibly friendly and accommodating during our entire stay. I highly recommend a stay on your next visit to Gettysburg.
