The boutique Schoolhouse Hotel property in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, is admittedly cool and boasts a historic past — but its notability goes further than that. The first full-service boutique hotel in White Super Springs, the property is also the first fully ADA-complaint hotel in the world. This means all of the guestrooms within the property are suitable for use by individuals of all abilities, according to the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Disability Opportunity Fund, a nonprofit serving the disability market, owns the hotel.

Beyond the 30 guestrooms and suites, Schoolhouse Hotel also offers extra accessible features such as synthetic grass for guide animals in the hotel entryway, touchpad-controlled toilets, wheelchair storage spaces, in-room Google Nest devices that provide direct communication with the front desk and more. In a nod to the hotel’s former life as White Sulphur District High School, opened in 1912, guestrooms are themed around school subjects such as art, history and math.

The property features a signature restaurant, The Varsity Club, offering southern-inspired, upscale menus and a secondary, small-plates restaurant, The Rooftop, with 360-degree views of the surrounding Allegheny Mountains.

So, what is there to do in White Sulphur Springs? The destination offers the ADA-compliant Greenbrier River Trail, which traverses through small towns and across waterways, as well as the newest national park, New River Gorge.
