Don’t spend your vacation making last-minute runs to the pet store. Make sure you’re packing the following must-haves for any trip with your dog.
Day-to-Day Necessities
Obviously, there are some day-to-day items your pets will need to get by. Pre-portion their food before you pack it, so it’s easier to dole out on the go. Pack travel-friendly bowls (both water and food), as well as any needed medications. Ensure you have sturdy leashes, collars (with all tags intact!) and harnesses, and plenty of waste bags. If your dog needs to be crated while you’re away from them, you might want to invest in a more easily packable crate.
Travel Accessories
Consider how your dog is going to travel. If traveling by car, you’ll need to think about how they’ll settle in for the long drive. You may want to purchase a safety seat designed for dogs to ride in the car, or covers for your back seat to keep them more comfortable, the back seat clean and the driver free from worrying about a sudden pup appearance in the front of the car.
If your dog gets car sick or has car anxiety, you may want to stock up on medications to help ease their symptoms. While you’re at it, do a little research into vet care in your destination, so you know where to go if an emergency arises.
The Fun Stuff
Of course, Fido wants to have fun on vacation, too. Pack plenty of treats and a few of their toys (though you might want to leave absolute favorites at home, so you don’t risk losing them during transit). This might also be the perfect time to purchase a few new treats or toys, as a surprise.
