Tips / Other

Most people who end up skydiving do not end up there by accident. It is usually a bucket list item, the fruition of which has taken shape over the course of years. This means you have had time to think about the experience. Even if you are excited by the prospect, it doesn’t mean you can’t also be completely freaked out, too. Luckily, experts are around to give plenty of advice for how to prepare for the big day.

Common advice involves reassuring yourself about how normal it is to be completely freaked out by the prospect of jumping out of a plane at 12,000 feet. Many people recommend reading up on the process and visualizing it over and over again. Imagine preparing for your flight, checking all of your equipment, getting into the plane, taking off, the moment before the jump and calmly letting yourself jump from the plane. Then, imagine the perspective you will have on the world.

More practical advice includes eating that day, even if you worry you might get motion sickness. It is important to stay level. Dress for the weather on the ground. You don’t want to be weighed down by your clothing, but you don’t want to be freezing either.

Try not to worry; the experts at Phoenix Skydive Center remind customers modern parachutes not only land gently, but have automated activation devices that will release when you drop below a certain altitude. Yes, thing can go wrong, but it is more likely they will go right, in which case another bucket list item has been checked off.
