Tips / Travel

Traveling off-season can be a great way to save some cash, and have your choice of hotels and activities without crowds. Some destinations vary, of course, considering weather and what attractions are open, but some of the most popular destinations are those with the most reward in the off-season.

Europe

Consider an off-season European adventure, as November–March offers plenty of time to get a vacation together. The shoulder season begins to creep up in April, when more travelers and tourists begin flocking to popular destinations like Paris, London, Rome and Barcelona, but the no-fuss travelers who don’t mind a little chill in the air, fickle rain or grey skies know the off-season is a great time to go.

Mexico

The off-season in Mexico also falls before April, so if sipping cocktails on the beach at an all-inclusive resort, almost certainly at a discounted rate, is more your thing, Mexico’s pristine beaches of Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas and Riviera Maya may be the best option for you this winter.

Morocco

For an all-out, epic vacation, Morocco should be on your radar this off-season. The typical off-season begins in May when the temperatures begin to rise, so plan your vacation for late March or April to catch the end of the off-season without finding yourself in the desert with triple-digit temperatures.

As with all international trips, do your research. Sure, the off-season is appealing for the discounts and smaller crowds, but there’s a reason it’s the low season. Check the weather and attractions you’re most interested in before booking — make sure the aspects of your trip you’re most excited about are actually accessible when you decide to travel.
