Destinations / Asia

Hiroshima is one of Japan’s most visited cities, and it’s easy to see why. Here are some of the best attractions in town.

Peace Memorial Park is home to the cenotaph in honor of the victims of the 1945 atomic bomb, as well as many places for reflection on the legacy of the war. You can also find the Flame of Peace, which will be kept alight until every nuclear weapon in the world is destroyed.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is another must-see, telling the story of the bomb and its aftermath. It is known to be an incredibly moving institution with a number of amazing exhibitions.

Take a boat to Miyajima, known as Shrine Island, and you will get a great view back across to Hiroshima. There is a huge shrine that looks like it floats on the water, making for an awesome photo opportunity.

For a nice break from the bustling city, dip into Shukkei-en Garden. Built in 1620, this landscaped garden is a breath of fresh air on the banks of the Ota River.

Another traditional attraction is the Mitaki-dera Temple, built in 809. It is set in spectacular grounds that are particularly beautiful in autumn, when the leaves on the trees turn an array of amazing colors.

See How Recycled Paper is Made at Elephant PooPoo Paper Park

Thailand's Elephant PooPoo Paper Park is taking recycling to a whole new level. By developing a symbiotic relationship with elephants that promotes sustainability, it is producing cute and functional paper products and clothing while providing much-needed jobs for locals in Thailand's rural communities. Thailand developed a system of taking elephant waste and converting it into products that are not only practical, but also environmentally friendly.

Enjoy the Open Road on Your Terms

For most of us, time in the car is “me time.” You can listen to that podcast you’re captivated by, blast that pop song and sing along at the top of your lungs or listen to the next chapter in that biography e-book you’re almost finished. A road trip only amplifies those opportunities. So, next time you’re traveling by road, take the wheel and take control. Opt for a rental car on your next vacation, rather than a rideshare, taxi or public transportation, and enjoy the open road on your own terms.

Stay Cozy with These Neck Pillows and Blankets

Traveling is hardly comfortable because of plane seats. Airplane seats also have poor neck support and headrests and can be cold. We found two-in-one pillow and blankets that may help make travelers' journeys more comfortable.
