Destinations / Asia

The port city of Guangzhou, China, is located northwest of Hong Kong. There are plenty of unique attractions to experience during your visit. Start by exploring these spots.

Baiyun Mountain

The mountain’s name, baiyun, translates to “white clouds” in Mandarin and describes the misty views of the mountains’ peaks after a rainfall. The highest peak sits about 1,200 feet above sea level. Visitors can take a cable car to the top for prime views of Guangzhou.

Canton Tower

Standing nearly 2,000 feet tall, the multipurpose tower is the second-tallest in the country. The building illuminates at night in a variety of bright colors. The rooftop observatory is open to the public.

Pearl River

The Pearl River is a great spot to visit during the day or at night. Zhujiang Brewery, one of China’s main brewing companies, is located in the Pearl River Delta. Tour companies offer nighttime cruises up and down the river to take in the beautiful city lights.

Shamian Island

The island is set off mainland Guangzhou. Shamian translates to “sandy surface.” The island formerly served as a trade port. Today, it’s home to numerous shops and restaurants.

Temple of the Six Banyan Trees

This Buddhist Temple was built in the year 537. Following a fire, the temple was rebuilt and the final main structure of the Flower Pagoda was completed in the 1300s and restored in 1900. The temple is open daily for visitors.
