Seattle
An obvious choice, Seattle isn’t just home to Starbucks. The city has plenty of other great roasters, one of which is Caffe Vita. Opened in 1995, it’s famous for its lattes and espressos.
Rome
Get a kick of espresso in Rome and drink it not only quickly, but also standing up. The reason for the need for speed? The longer you let it sit, the more likely you’ll miss out on the quickly disappearing emulsion of coffee oils that sits on top of the drink and holds all the flavor. One favorite spot is Sant’Eustachio il Caffe, founded in 1938, where one of the favorites is a “gran caffe speciale” or a shot of sweetened espresso.
Auckland
While you might not think of New Zealand as the place to go for coffee, you’d be remiss if you missed the coffee scene in Auckland. The coffeemakers there supposedly made the flat white popular, and it’s the country’s signature coffee beverage. One of the favorite places to go? Reslau.
Finland
Did you know the good people of Finland drink as many as 10 cups of coffee a day? As such, they need a good place to get their brew. Cafe Ekberg has been around since 1852, and it’s still owned by the same family. Drink it strong and black.
İstanbul
Your first Turkish coffee is an experience you’ll never forget, so why not give it a try in the city that started it all — İstanbul? One of the best spots is Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi, near the Spice Bazaar.
