Get your haunt on when you visit one of these spooky spots in the United Kingdom.

Edinburgh Castle

In the right gloomy light, Edinburgh Castle, perched atop its hill high above the city, can appear downright menacing. Its past certainly isn’t the cheeriest. Edinburgh itself is known for its haunted history, thanks to the dark tunnels that run below the streets, as well as the city’s experience with the plague. Edinburgh Castle supposedly is home to the ghosts of former prisoners and a headless drummer.

Culloden Battlefield

In the mid-1700s, the Jacobite Rebellion was squashed in the matter of a few bloody minutes. Now, the ghosts of highlanders are said to roam the fields, and you can sometimes hear echoes of the battle, including sword clashes, gunfire and the screams of the wounded.

Tower of London

The Tower of London’s grisly past resulted in numerous reported ghost sightings, with visitors claiming to glimpse Lady Jane Grey, Anne Boleyn and others. With the Tower’s reputation for torture and unjust executions, it’s no wonder.

Highgate Cemetery

Arguably London’s most famous cemetery, Highgate is a popular spot for those intrigued by such things. However, beyond the famous gravestones, there are an untold number of unmarked graves just below your feet. A ghostly vampire is rumored to roam the tombs, with the last reported sighting in 2013.

The Ancient Ram Inn

In Gloucester, this inn claims it’s the most haunted house in Britain, hands down. The pub’s history includes a witch burning, ritual murders and hangings.
