The Catacombs, Paris

Underneath the busy roads in Paris lies a creepy graveyard from the 18th century. More than 6 million Parisians through roughly 200 miles of tunnels are buried here, and the catacombs can be toured by visitors.

Poveglia Island, Italy

This island has been the final resting place for many. The Romans sent plague victims there to live out their days because they did not know what to do with them. When the Bubonic plague hit centuries later, those infected were sent there as well. In 1922, a mental asylum was built on the island, but it has since been abandoned.

Island of Dolls, Mexico

The legend of this haunted location stems from a little girl who drowned near the coast of this island close to Mexico City. Dolls started washing up on shore after her death and the only resident on the island at the time began to collect them and hang them from the trees. Now there are hundreds of dolls hanging around staring at visitors who walk; past visitors have claimed to see them move.

Leap Castle, Ireland

This castle is known to be one of the most haunted places in the world. The O’Carroll clan, who inhabited the castle more than 400 years ago, were notorious for their vicious behavior. A trap door opened up to a chute that led victims to fall onto wooden spikes that slowly killed them.

Salem, Mass.

Home to many present-day witches and warlocks, Salem has a history with the dark arts. The 1692 witch trials accused 200 people of practicing witchcraft and ended with 20 of those people executed.
