Australian Centre for the Moving Image 

Also known as ACMI, this museum is Australia’s first and only museum dedicated to film, digital technology, video games and art. The museum is currently undergoing vast renovations.

 

Immigration Museum 

As its name suggests, this museum details Australia’s immigration history. The museum hosts numerous special events and festivals throughout the year. Open daily, general adult admission costs $15.

 

Melbourne Museum
Learn more about the city’s history at Melbourne Museum. The museum houses exhibits detailing cultural and natural history. Open daily, the museum hosts a variety of educational events for all ages.

 

National Gallery of Victoria 

Popularly known as NGV, the museum is the oldest and largest art museum in Australia. The collection boasts more than 73,000 pieces of art. The museum is open daily and entrance is free.

 

National Sports Museum 

This museum dedicated to all things Australian sports is located at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The collection includes everything from Olympics memorabilia to interactive exhibits. Keep in mind: The museum is undergoing extensive renovations and will reopen in February 2020.
