Paris is home to some of the world’s most amazing museums. Visitors flock to this city and flood the hallways admiring their pieces. By the sheer number of museums, it’s obvious Paris is a city for art and history.
The Louvre will always top the list of any article about great museums in Paris. The Louvre offers a plethora of exhibits to enjoy. Some of the most famous pieces in the world call the Louvre home. It’s a fantastic facility to visit and, although thousands of travelers stream in everyday, the museum is plenty big enough to fit them all and then some.
The Musee d’Orsay was built in a former railway station, adding a charm to the building. The original structure emained the same, evoking wanderlust and travel feelings for those who visit. Most of the work in the collection dates 1848–1914. Many come to see the Impressionist collections, but there are post-Impressionist works as well.
At the Musee Rodin, an extensive collection of one of France’s most legendary sculptors, Auguste Rodin, welcomes visitors. The museum is his former home and displays works both inside and outside in his gardens. There is a room dedicated to his former lover Camille Claudel, who in the eyes of some was more talented than her lover and coworker.
Musee de l’Orangerie is a small museum within the Tuileries Gardens. The gardens used to be a citrus greenhouse, hence the name. The gallery consists of Impressionists and post-Impressionist paintings. The most famous kept here are eight water lily paintings by Claude Monet.
Jacques Chirac, a former President of France, opened Musee du Quai Branly. He wanted to create a museum that celebrated the indigenous art of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas.
