If you’re hoping to plan a trip that’ll allow you plenty of time to unwind and forget your inbox even exists, you might want to take a digital detox vacation. Turn off your phone. Avoid email and social media feeds. It could be just the thing you need.
But where can you go to truly unplug? With so many travel options seeming to lean more toward tech than away from it, is a digital detox even possible?
A study from The Stock Dork looked at 40 countries and factors such as internet penetration, internet speed, population density, safety, number of national parks, digital detox resorts, wellness retreats and walkability to reveal the best places to go for a digital detox.
The clear winner? Indonesia. Not only does the country offer lots of wellness retreats, digital detox-specific resorts and national parks, but it also ranks highly for safety and has the lowest overall internet speed and penetration — so you won’t even be tempted to scroll.
Spain, Portugal, Costa Rica and Thailand rounded out the top five options. Spain offered the highest number of digital detox resorts out of the 40 countries compared, though Costa Rica wasn’t far behind, with 30 digital detox resorts and 163 available wellness retreats.
