The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art offers an extensive collection in Kansas City. Open to the public since 1933, the museum boasts ancient through contemporary works from around the world.
The museum features three levels of exhibits: the lobby level, plaza level and second level. Visitors will find African, Asian, American and European works in a variety of mediums including architecture, decorative arts, photography and pottery.
Beyond the walls of the museum building sits the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park, which features dozens of sculptures throughout the grounds. In 2007, the museum opened an addition, the Bloch Building. The building houses special exhibits and is built amid the sculpture park, to blend art, architecture and landscape.
In addition to artwork, the museum houses an educator resource center with materials for teachers and educational professionals and the Spencer Art Reference Library with print and online resources available to the public.
Admission is free to everyone. There is a fee to view select special exhibitions. The museum welcomes more than 500,000 visitors each year. The museum is closed on Monday and Tuesday. Parking costs $10 and is free for museum members.
Follow the museum on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more information about special shows and museum news.
