Elevate your camping experience by getting off the ground and into the trees. Tree tents are a relaxing and fun way to spend the evening and reconnect with nature. You just need the help of two to three trees as anchor points to create a tent that mimics the versatility of a hammock. Tenstile Tree Tents offers solo to up to 5-person tree tents so travelers can share the experience. Tents can be set up in 10 minutes or less and is ideal for steep or rocky terrain, or even above water for a tranquil and unique camping experience.

Hammocks repurposed into tents offer a lightweight, portable way to camp on the go easily. Climb inside the Hennessy Hammock to relax and read, or zip up for a good night’s sleep. The asymmetric hammock features a protective rain cover, side entry and double slider zipper. You can also build your own hammock by choosing a bigger rainfly, longer webbing straps and insulation. Campers get the benefit of weather protection and warmth without compromising on lightweight gear.

If sleeping in the trees isn’t unique enough, catch a snooze in a spherical Cocoon Tree Bed with a resistant waterproof membrane. The end result is an upscale camping experience where campers hang suspended in an orb. Add on a mattress and pillows for a luxurious night’s sleep.

Tree tents and hammock tents simplify weekend getaways or trips abroad, where you can take your accommodations with you wherever you go. Look for legal camping sites during your travels or ask a private landowner if you can borrow a few trees before heading out for the day.

San Juan Better Than Ever After Hurricane Maria

It’s been almost three years since Category 5 Hurricane Maria made landfall on Puerto Rico, wreaking havoc on the island and leaving most residents without electricity and clean water. Tourism, which accounts for 6.5 percent of Puerto Rico’s gross domestic product, took a beating, with hotels closed for year-long repairs, airlines cutting service and cruise lines shifting itineraries to other Caribbean destinations. Timing for the hurricane couldn’t have been worse, coming on the heels of the government’s announcement in May 2017 that it was unable to pay more than $70 billion in public debt and thus forced to file for bankruptcy. Large protests and a change of government would follow. Then, in January 2020, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake rocked the south side of the island, forcing San Juan restaurants to close while power was restored. And as we write this story, coronavirus runs rampant across the globe with severe economic implications for all destinations, including Puerto Rico.

Mix Work and Play in Bangkok

The 1985 song “One Night in Bangkok” mentions many of the overindulgences of this city. One of them is massage parlors. Today, however, a Thai massage is considered an activity that improves one’s physical and mental well-being. The city has shed its former reputation as a place of wild nightlife and decadence, over the past few decades emerging as a major center for international commerce, wellness initiatives and tourism.
