Travel with a smaller carbon footprint, thanks to a new tour and initiative launched by Tourism Malaysia. Pairing travelers with knowledgeable guides, the new Eco-Friendly Borneo Green Bike Tour encourages responsible tourism in Kuching, Sarawak, and allows travelers to see some of the area’s most iconic landmarks, all while producing zero carbon emissions.
Over about a half-day, travelers ride eco-friendly electric motor bikes (they can choose to drive themselves or have their guide drive), and visit sites like Brooke Monument, Kai Joo Lane, Chinese History Museum and Kuching South City Council. Covering quite a lot of ground, other sites on the tour travelers can potentially see include the White Cat Statue, Tua Pek Kong Temple, Carpenter Street, Borneo Cultures Museum, Sarawak Museum, Kuching North City Hall, Fort Margherita, State Legislative Assembly and Kuching City Mosque.
The tour starts around $30 per person. Both English- and Mandarin-speaking guides are available. Bookings can be made via Smart Leisure & Travels, a Malaysian-based travel agency that works with the country’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
Launching the tours is part of a broader movement developed by Tourism Malaysia to prioritize eco-friendly travel initiatives.
