Athens, Georgia, is perhaps best known as a college town, with the University of Georgia’s campus located there. The city offers plenty to see and do beyond the college campus, all for less than $100 a day.

Head to Bear Hollow Wildlife Trail and Zoo to experience the region’s wildlife. Take a leisurely 1.25-mile hike on the Birchmore Trail. Admission to the park and zoo is free. Make your way downtown and stroll around viewing Victorian houses, charming shops and beautiful oak trees.
Have lunch at South Kitchen + Bar. The award-winning restaurant serves contemporary southern cuisine with items like fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese and shrimp and grits gracing the menu. Small plates start at $4 and sandwiches start at $8. Visit the Georgia Museum of Art. Associated with the University of Georgia, the museum boasts a collection of American, Asian and European art. Admission is free. The museum is closed Monday.
Head to Trappeze Pub for dinner. The gastropub offers a great selection of beers, including local options. Choose from bar snacks, salads, sandwiches and entrées. Dinner costs about $10–22. Athens is known for its lively bar scene. Have a nightcap at Allgood Lounge. The bar boasts signature cocktails, a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar, beers on draft and in cans, plus a pool table, patio and a tiki bar. Spend about $10.
