Europe

Grab something quick for breakfast at Del Mundo. They offer high-quality food with quick and chipper service. A breakfast food and coffee will cost less than $10.

Visit the Old Town in Basel to begin the day exploring. Make sure to look up and admire the architecture as many of the buildings are Roman and Gothic. Check out the historic Middle Bridge, which marks the oldest crossing of the Rhine River. Continue walking through Old Town and visit St. Peter’s Square, the Gate of Spalen and Market Square.

Stop for lunch at a fun restaurant called tidbits. Customers can choose from more than 40 homemade vegetarian dishes. The dishes are inspired by different vegetarian communities around the world. This spot is great for groups or families looking for a budget-friendly restaurant. At this establishment people pay by the weight. For groups, they can pile a bunch of food on their plate and then split the price amongst them. The cost depends on the weight but expect to spend less than $15 for a normal-sized portion.

Head back into the city and visit the University Basel Botanical Gardens and the Erlen Verein Park and Zoo. Both are free to enter, and the zoo hosts a variety of animals such as lynx, bison and owls.

End the night with a quiet Italian dinner at Rosario’s Lo Spuntino. Popular with both locals and travelers, this is a great spot to enjoy a nice meal to end the day. A full meal might put someone back $20.
