Destinations / Europe

Bled, the Slovenian resort town in the foothills of the Julian Alps, is an expensive place to visit. That doesn’t mean it’s out of reach. You can easily enjoy a day here for less than $100 if you know how to spend.

Start with breakfast at Slascicarna Zima for one of the scrumptious cakes and coffee. A quick bite will cost $10. From there, take a stroll around Lake Bled to enjoy all of the incredible views.

You’ll want to swing by Bled Castle to explore the architecture and sights over the lake. Entrance is $12. Next, hire a boat to take you to the center of the lake for a visit to Lake Bled Island. There are numerous boats to choose from, so find the cheapest, which shouldn’t cost more than $15. While you’re there, ring the wishing bell.

Head back to shore for a quick bite over at Public Bar & Vegan Kitchen. A sandwich or burger will run $10.

The afternoon will take you about 10 minutes outside of the city. Catch a ride to Vintgar Gorge for a stroll along the boardwalks at Radovna River. You might be able to find a ride for free, or you can share a cab with strangers for less than $10. Biking is an option, too. Bled is an outdoor destination, so now it’s time to hike Mala Osojnica. It’s a quick hike and not too strenuous, and the views are breathtaking.

With the rest of the evening and afternoon, feel free to stroll around town or enjoy a swim. When hungry, be sure to try Ostarija Babji Zob for a hearty meal and another slice of the town’s famous cakes. A meal will cost $20.
