Under $100 / North America

Over in southern Alberta, Calgary holds down Canada’s reputation as a cosmopolitan city with a wild, rural side. Take advantage of all the free, or close-to-it, activities throughout town and enjoy a visit to Calgary for less than $100 a day.

Get your country grub on at the Diner Deluxe for breakfast or lunch. Affordable eats range by season and can typically be found for $4–18.

Enjoy all the local and tourist attractions of the city, including Heritage Park Historical Village. This living history park boasts more than 180 exhibits, a museum and summer attractions, like festival rides, dining and shopping options. See what’s on ahead of your arrival.

For some sports history, check out Canada Olympic Park, built for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games. This park is open to the public and offers all-ages, seasonal activities. Prices vary by time of year and activity, but typically begin around $7.

Get out on the water with a Banff Lake Cruise, or visit one of the last rodeos at Calgary Stampede. Calgary Stampede is a must-visit destination, especially during the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, through July 14, or plan ahead for next year’s show, July 3–12, 2020.

Get up above the city with amazing views and thrills from the Banff Gondola. Go all-out on this bird’s eye view experience of Sulphur Mountain and the Canadian Rockies, with additional dining options. Stay with your feet planted firmly on the ground along the scenic range of hiking, biking and easy walking trails through Banff National Park. Experience the region’s unending natural beauty and unbeatable views — not to mention the free workout.

Work up an appetite for dinner later at Burwood Distillery. Grab a drink and locally inspired dining options, based in the region’s European roots, but with the country twang and twists only Calgary could offer.

Rent bikes from your hotel (usually for free or a small fee) or a nearby shop for around $40, or take advantage of Calgary’s extensive public transportation system in getting around the city.

One thing to know about Calgary before your visit, there’s almost always something going on. Check out local events like music festivals and pop-up markets coinciding with your next trip.
