Cefalu is a beach town some 40 miles east of the Sicilian capital, Palermo. It’s a charming place that can be busy in summer, so traveling in the shoulder season is recommended.
Grab a quick breakfast at NonnAnge Bakery & Coffee, which does exactly what it says on the tin. Then spend the morning on the sandy beach that stretches outside town. If you are there in July and August you may find people charging for sun loungers and umbrellas, but there are always free sections where you can stretch out if you are on a budget.
Just back from the beach is your lunch spot, a trattoria called Sutt’a Ravia. It’s known for bargain prices and fresh ingredients from the fish market next door, and you can eat a good meal for around $14.
If it’s hot in the afternoon, take a stroll to the cathedral in the city center and spend some time café hopping. For something more active, climb La Rocca for great views over the town.
For dinner, head to Il Normanno. It’s a cozy little spot, and the menu focuses on local dishes ($25). Carry on the night at Klapinta Craft Beer if you fancy a beer, or the Enoteca Rossorubino di Valenziano Alessandro if wine is more your thing.
