Under $100: Jeju Island

Jeju province encompasses the South Korean island of Jeju in the Korea Strait. It’s known for its beach resorts and volcanic landscape of craters and cave-like lava tubes. The island is small, but packed with fantastic activities. Here’s how to explore the island while sticking to your budget.

And Yu Café is a great stop for breakfast. It is a Korean/British café with a completely plant-based menu. Expect to spend less than $13 on breakfast here.

Spend your morning at Woljeongri Beach. It is known for its scenery, tranquil white sand and beautiful Emerald Ocean. It is the perfect spot for post-breakfast relaxation time. The swimming period is July 1–Aug, 31, 10 a.m.–7 p.m.

When you are ready for a break from the beach Gopdeulrak is close by for lunch. The pork barbeque restaurant is only a block away. You can expect to spend $15–20 on lunch here.

Manjanggul Lava Tube is a great post-lunch attraction. The one-kilometer trek will take less than an hour. Remember to bring a jacket with you as well as proper walking shoes. The cave is open 9 a.m.–6 p.m. and costs less than $2 to enter.

Try Jeju’s famous abalones at Myeongjin Jeonbok. There are only four dishes on the menu — abalone sizzling stone pot rice, grilled abalone, rice porridge with abalone and sliced raw abalone. All entrees will cost less than $26 here.
