While Lake George may be a bustling, lake-side beach town of sorts in the summer, it’s a true stunner in fall. With the crowds gone and Lake George still open for business, November is a great time to get a deal.

Find rustic stays, like beach camping and lodge-style rooms for a budget, or opt for something mid-range where you enjoy amenities for an affordable price, like a Holiday Inn.

When it comes to dining, you can throw a rock and hit about five great down-home spots for something to eat. Keep it casual and quick with coffee and a bite at Caffe Vero. This year-round restaurant provides a coffee and pastry breakfast or a hearty lunch.

Spend the day hiking local trails, walking through town shopping — just look out for that New York tax — and enjoying a cocktail or two by the water. There are plenty of bars, wineries and breweries located along the lake, so have your pick.

You’re in New York, so a slice (or two) of pizza is part of the experience. Try Pizza Jerks for a quick, casual lunch with salad, sub, calzone and pizza options ranging $9–15. If barbeque is more your style, The Barnsider Smokehouse BBQ boasts a cozy atmosphere and wide assortment.

Strap on your hiking boots and get some great photos at Shelving Rock Falls, or hop on a Lake George Cruise for a better view of the famous lake and town. Take in the stunning fall foliage from the water while hearing about the history of Lake George — just bundle up! Cruises begin at $19 for adults.
