Destinations / North America

Philadelphia is the sixth-largest city in the United States by population and the former capital of the country, so there is quite a lot to see and do in the area. Below, learn how to navigate the city on a budget.

Head to the Dutch Eating Place at Reading Terminal Market for breakfast. You can get pancakes, eggs, bacon or a sandwich and coffee or tea to start your day ($15).

Purchase a ticket for the Philly PHLASH bus and explore the city. You can hop on at Reading Terminal Market and head out into the town ($5 all-day pass).

Take a stop at the Rodin Museum to view sculptures by Auguste Rodin ( $12) and then walk up the street to the Philadelphia Museum of Art ($23) and explore the many collections available. Outside the museum are the iconic Rocky steps to do some light jogging, and you can get your photo taken at the “Rocky” statue.

Hop on the Philly PHLASH back to Center City and get off at 3rd and Market. Head to Sonny’s Famous Steak on 2nd and Market to enjoy cheesesteaks and drinks, Philly style ($11).

Head to the Independence Visitor Center and explore. In the area, you can explore Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell (free).

After that tour, head to Dim Sum Garden in Chinatown to enjoy crab meat and pork dumplings and bubble tea ($14) to top off your day. Explore Chinatown a bit more to see the buildings and stores around the area.

The last stop is the One Liberty Observation Deck, which provides one of the most beautiful views of Philadelphia. You can watch the sunset and experience the colors in the sky as you bid your day farewell ($15).
