Under $100: Santiago, Chile

Santiago is Chile’s capital city and the country’s largest. The diverse city offers visitors plenty to see and do for less than $100 a day.

Start your day with breakfast at Café Med. Located at the Santiago Marriott Hotel, the restaurant is perfect for a business or leisure meal. Spend about $30.

After breakfast see more of the city on a cable car ride. The ride goes up San Cristóbal Hill, giving visitors a beautiful view of the city and Andes Mountains. Depending on the day, time and duration, adult rides cost $2–9.

Visit the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino. The art museum highlights pre-Columbian art and artifacts from Central and South America. General admission costs about $10. The museum is closed Monday. Have lunch at Emporio La Rosa. The ice cream and dessert shop offers more than just sweets. Sandwiches, salads, stews and empanadas round out the menu. Grab a light lunch with your ice cream for about $10.

Head to the Bellavista neighborhood to shop and have dinner. The trendy neighborhood is home to many bars, restaurants and charming boutiques. Sample traditional Chilean cuisine at Galindo. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes including Chilean-style seafood, sandwiches and empanadas. Spend about $10–15 on dinner. Bellavista is also known for its nightlife. There are numerous places to choose from, depending on your style. Try Barrica 94 for a more low-key vibe and Chilean wine.
